Welcome and congrats!

June 22, 2010

Hello and welcome to the newest feature of pebblecreekswimteam.com, our coaches blog. We will use the blog throughout the season as a place to share our thoughts on various things related to the team, as well as maintain a direct form of communication from the coaches to the team. Unless otherwise noted, all blog entries will be literary masterpieces written by Coach Justin.

So let’s start this blog off with a congratulatory note. For those that are unaware, the Piranhas bested the Milestone Makos 1209-861 in our first meet of the season. Congatulation to all Pebble Creek swimmers! Hopefully many more will follow. Let’s take a minute and focus in on what that means. First, when we swam Milestone last year, they beat us by fewer than 10 points (which isn’t a lot when teams can score over 1,000 points per meet). The fact that we were able to turn that small of a margin into such an astounding victory is quite the testament to the effort we have been showing at practice these first few weeks. There is no doubt that we have been doing the right things, and are moving forward. The second thing I would like to point out is our point total. Scoring 1209 points is quite the accomplishment, and it is the second highest scoring meet in team history. As if that were not enough, adding to that remarkable achievement is that we scored that many points during our first meet of the season. Traditionally, as the season progresses, more and more swimmers move into higher scoring categories by achieving ADV, JV, V, or SV times which allows for more points to be scored as each catagory has seperate scoring/placing. In the 10 years prior to this season, we have never scored more than 1,000 points in the first meet. We now have 1209 as our starting point and can continue to work upwards from there as the season progresses. Who knows, maybe we will even score the most points in Piranha history :)
