Welcome to the Pebble Creek Swim Team!

The Board of Directors is pleased to announce Ryan Griffiths as the Head Coach of the Pebble Creek Piranhas. Ryan is no stranger to the Piranhas as he began swimming with our club at the age of six through high school. A graduate of Lee-Davis High School (now Mechanicsville High School), Ryan has swum competitively with Burkwood Aquatic Club and as a Division I athlete at Mount Saint Mary’s University, where he serves as Captain of the Swim and Dive team and holds eight team records. Ryan has been a swim coach for several years to include serving as an assistant coach with Pebble Creek (2018) and two years with the Atlee Gators (2019 and 2020). Ryan is passionate about swimming and had this to say, “Swimming is more than just a sport to me. It is structure, an escape, a social life, a means to improve myself, and most importantly, have fun.”
Welcome home, Ryan. The Piranhas are excited for the 2021 swim season.

Hello Pebble Creek Families,

Welcome to Swim Season 2021!

The PCST Board had been working extremely hard to put policies and procedures in place in order to meet the Governor’s Executive Orders along with keeping the wellbeing, health, and safety of your child, similar to how we proceeded for the 2020 season.

We are excited to have our Piranhas back in the pool, but things will work a little differently than in years past.  Below is a listing of key topics that will be slightly different than in year’s past.

Registration

Registration is now officially open!! Registration fee will be $115 per child.

When you register your child, you will also be required to sign acknowledgement of COVID-19 Policies and Procedures. Please note, the policies and procedures will continue to be updated as new guidelines will be released by our Governor and will be communicated to you.

Swim Season

Practice will start May 22.  The season will go through July 24, culminating in GRAL Swim Champs.

We are excited to offer many different practice options this year.

WHILE WE ARE IN SCHOOL Practice Times: May 22nd – June 17th

This year we are able to offer evening practices.  Evening practices will range from 6:30PM to 8:00PM.  Your child will not be swimming the entire time. Practice schedules are still being worked on to accommodate the limited capacity on the pool deck and get all swimmers maximum practice time.

Please look for a practice schedule to be released at the end of April.

SUMMER Practice Times:  June 21 – July 24th

Practice times have been set up to allow for a limited number of people on the pool deck and allow each child to be swimming and exercising as much as possible during their allotted practice time. Similar to last year, we will be asking swimmers to arrive to practice a few minutes early to get a health screening and be ready to swim at their allotted time.

Practice times are determined by your child’s age.   Practices will run Monday- Friday for the AM.

7a.m. to 7:45 a.m. – ages 8 and under

7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. – ages 9 to 12

8: 30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. – ages 13 and older

  • Please NOTE: Practice times may change depending on registration numbers/ pool availability
  • Your child may ask to swim a different practice group depending on ability. This will be discussed with you the first week of practice.

Swimmers MUST BE off the pool deck by 9:15 a.m. in order for the guards to prepare to open the pool for homeowners.

For those that need evening practice during the Summer, we are excited to offer practice on Monday and Tuesday nights. We do have a cap on the number of swimmers that can be on deck for the evening practices. We will set the age groups once we get an idea on numbers.

6:30pm – 7:15pm – Practice slot 1

7:15pm – 8:00pm  – Practice slot 2

Mini Mites

Mini Mites is a program that the Pebble Creek Swim team has had for children that can swim, just not all the way across the pool.  Given the hands-on approach that is required and the limited space we have for practice, Mini Mites will not be offered for the 2021 swim season.  We apologize to those families that this decision impacts as this decision was not taken lightly.  We are hoping you will join us in 2022 when we have greater latitude for swim practice time and space.

Swim Meets- GRAL (Greater Richmond Aquatic League) Season

This year, GRAL season can occur and the swim meets will be virtual. This means that we will swim all meets at the Pebble Creek pool and the team will not travel to other facilities.  Meet times will be flexed not to impede the opening or closing of the Pebble Creek pool to other homeowners who do not participate in the swim team.  The other team will swim at their pool and the times will be combined to run the meet.  Ribbons will be provided as always.

Meet Dates:

  • Wednesday, Jun 9th @ 6:30PM
  • Tuesday, June 15th @ 6:30PM
  • Wednesday, June 23rd @ 6:30PM
  • Wednesday, June 30th @6:30pm
  • Wednesday, July 7th @6:30pm
  • Wednesday, July 14th @6:30PM

Prior/ Early Registration

Any swimmer that has signed up for swim team 2020 earlier in the year will now need to sign the COVID 19 acknowledgement form for the 2021 season.

CITs

The Coach in Training (CIT) program will continue for 2021. There will be an application sent out via email for those that are interested.   Our Coaches in Training program (CIT) is available for anyone over the age of 13 to participate. It is a volunteer position with assigned practice times given based on YOUR availability.  CITs are our swimmers who kids in younger age groups look up too, model after and take instruction from.  It is a great opportunity to get volunteer hours for school if those are needed for your program.

************************************************************************************************

We ask you and your family for patience as we are working through updating policies as the different phases for our state are released. In addition, we are working with the HOA to ensure that all rules are followed at the pool. If there is any additional information that needs to be shared, we will be communicating that as it is released.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the pool!

To our Piranha family and PC Community,

The PCST Board wanted to give you an update on the 2020 season.

Since Virginia first entered quarantine, the PCST Board has been working diligently to provide our families with a safe and healthy swim season.  The PCST has been a part of the Pebble Creek community for 21 years and we strongly believe that the benefits, both physical and mental, of swimming are greatly needed by our children in these challenging times.  There have been many obstacles along the way, and we have worked hard to overcome each one.  A final decision on the swim season will be made no later than June 17, pending guidance from the Pebble Creek Homeowners Association (HOA).  This decision will be based on the following criteria:

    • If on June 17 (or before), the HOA has communicated that the pool will be opened on or before June 30 and the HOA has guaranteed PCST use of the pool, PCST will have a swim team for the 2020 season.

    • If the HOA does not open the pool before June 30, PCST will NOT field a team. Swim Season 2020 will be canceled.

The PCST Board is aware that there are pools in the area that have started their season or they will be starting their seasons soon.  Some of these teams are accepting outside memberships for swimmers who currently do not have a team.  If you feel that seeking an alternate swim team for this season is in the best interest of your swimmer, we have attached a list of teams who are taking additional members at this time.  If you choose to pursue this option and have already paid your registration fee, please contact the PCST Team Manager at info@pebblecreekswimteam.com

We appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility with our swim season during this unprecedented season.  Your support of the swim team has not gone unnoticed.

Please look for another communication to be released on June 17, 2020.

Sincerely,

PCST Board
