2012 PCST Coaching Staff
Head Coach, Justain Murphy
After a one year hiatus with the Piranhas, Coach Justain is excited to be returning to Pebble Creek for his seventh season, fourth as head coach. During his time with the Piranhas, Justain has led Pebble Creek into the top division of GRAL, received the Excellence in Coaching Award, and the Piranhas were awarded the Len Everett Sportsmanship on two separate occasions. Justain was a former swimmer at PCST before swimming for Burkwood Aquatic Club (BAC) and Lee-Davis High School, where he was a state qualifier. He went on to swim four years at York College, leading the Spartans to a 39-4 overall record while also serving as team captain in his Junior and Senior year. He has spent the past two years as an assistant swim coach at Hanover High School, and has worked with the elite group at BAC. He also has experience with swim development programs at Randolph-Macon College and Burkwood Swim and Racquet Club. Justain is looking forward to rejoining the Piranhas and has high hopes for the 2012 season.
Assistant Coach, Matt Barker
Coach Barker began his swimming career with the Annandale Red Tide at age 10. He continued swimming for the Red Tide every summer until his 19 th birthday. During his final year of swimming, he was also an assistant coach, and he returned the following summer for another season of coaching. When Coach Barker began teaching at Lee-Davis, he accepted a position as the swim team’s assistant coach. After two years as assistant coach, Coach Barker stepped up to head coach and has recently completed his fifth year as head coach. After coaching at Atlee Recreation for three summers, Coach Barker decided to become a piranha. He believes that this was an excellent decision and will be returning for his second year as Pebble Creek’s assistant coach.
Assistant Coach, Melissa Davis
Melissa Davis is excited to be joining the Pebble Creek 2012 Coaching Staff. She has been swimming for Pebble Creek for 9 years and Burkwood Aquatic Club for 7 years. Not only has she been a part of a summer swim team for 12 years, but Melissa has been a Pebble Creek CIT for the past two years. She is joining the PSCT coaching staff with four years experience coaching Burkwood Spring Tune-up Clinics specializing in Learn to Swim lanes and three years experience teaching private lessons to various skill and age levels. While swimming for Lee-Davis High School, she has qualified for the state meet every year since Freshman year. As a Senior, she finished 6th in state in the 100 Backstroke. Senior year, she was Captain of the swim team; as such, she coached the JV swimmers. With Burkwood Aquatic Club, she has qualified for NSCA Junior National Swim Meet in Florida and was an Academic All-American. Melissa plans to attend a college or university next fall after she graduates high school this spring.
Assistant Coach, Caleb Ebert
Caleb started swimming in 2004, at the age of 9, and has been swimming ever since. This will be his 9th year of swimming with the Piranhas! Caleb was a CIT last year for the Mini-Mites and is excited to be back. He has been a coach at the Burkwood Swim Clinics for the past two years and is a former King’s Dominion lifeguard. Caleb is a junior at Lee-Davis, where he just completed his fourth season for swimming for the Lee-Davis high school. He is thrilled about coaching the Mini-Mites this year and is looking forward to a successful summer.
